Known as the Queen of the Mountains, Mount Rigi rises above Lake Lucerne, with the Swiss Alps on one side and the lakes and lowlands on the other. On this private day trip from Zurich, you will cross Lake Lucerne by boat and then ride Europe's first mountain railway, a cog train that has climbed to the summit since 1871, up to Rigi Kulm at 1,800 meters. On a clear day the view reaches across more than a dozen lakes and deep into the Alps. The whole journey runs on the Swiss rail network, which is comfortable and clean, and the best way to see the most beautiful sides of Switzerland without having to deal with crowded tourist buses or highway traffic.
