    Step Back into Medieval Times!

What a great way to see a real castle from medieval times 1536 - 1798. Located on Lake Geneva It’s a very large castle. Be aware there are lots of steps into high places. We really enjoyed our trip.

    A surprisingly good tour

Our castle guide met us in the courtyard as ‘Lady Fiona’ the original owner of the castle and she proceeded to show us around. Chillon Castle is the result of several centuries of constructions and alterations. The castle is built on a rocky island which acted as natural protection and a strategic location to control movement between the north and south of Europe. The oldest mention of the castle dates back to 1150 which was the Savoy era, 12th century to 1536. The Bernese era followed from 1536 to 1798 rolled by the Vaudois era 1798 until today. When the tour was complete our guide led us in a wine tasting, explaining how a tasting is done and then our group tried a white wine and a read wine of the castle’s own wines.

    A must-see castle

A superb location right on the Lake and it's just what you expect a medieval castle to look, with its towers, turrets and surrounded by think walls. There is a lot to see inside and it took us about 3 hours to go round. The audio guide is good and it gives you the history and explains what you are seeing in each room. We went on the boat from Montreux which only took 10 minutes and was a nice way to approach it. Afterwards we walked back to along the Lakeside path which was lovely but further than we expected!

Very beautiful castle that deserves a visit.

Superb castle on Lake Geneva, to be discovered (or revisited) by boat for a striking effect. The castle is well furnished, the tour route is complete and clear. Interesting audio guide.

Beautiful Chateau on the banks of Lac Leman

A lovely wee chateau on the banks of Lac Leman, it’s not particularly big and we just wandered around looking at all the rooms and historical artefacts, it took us about an hour to an hour 15 but if you do the audio tour or guided tour it will be longer. Beautiful chateau and interesting history. We had the train pass so got to Montreaux for free, jumped on a bus for 3.50 chf each way and the entrance was 15 chf.
