This relaxed, guided kayaking experience is all about enjoying Lake Brienz in an effortless way. You will paddle stable, easy-to-handle sit-on-top kayaks close to the shoreline near our base in Bönigen, staying near land and moving at a calm, comfortable pace under constant supervision. It is designed as a fun one-hour session rather than tour, with the focus on easy paddling, a bit of splashing around, and soaking up the scenery without the time commitment of a longer trip. It is a perfect choice if you want to try kayaking for the first time, get out on the water in a simple and safe format, and take home great photos as a souvenir of your time on the lake. Non-swimmers are welcome, as life jackets and swimming aids are provided, and we stay close to shore throughout. Families can also join, with children aged 5 and above welcome to participate; children aged 5 to 8 sit in a double kayak with an adult companion. Overall, the difficulty level is easy and beginner-friendly, using stable sit-on-top kayaks and a relaxed pace so you can feel comfortable, confident, and fully enjoy Lake Brienz even with no prior kayaking experience.

Kayaking with a severely disabled daughter
Our daughter is severely disabled. She can neither sit up nor hold her head up. Nevertheless, Hightide Kayak School made a wonderful excursion on the lake possible for our family. Our family was equipped with wetsuits, rain jackets, water shoes, life jackets, paddles, and fun water balls. By the way, the kayak school has a separate room with an electric changing table, everything is wheelchair accessible, and the staff is friendly, understanding, and accommodating! Our daughter sat right in front on a beanbag, supported by inflated cushions very comfortably in the front of the boat, and I rowed. My husband and son were in a separate boat, and the instructor was also in a separate boat. We set off with three boats. Our instructor told us something about Lake Brienz and the geographical features, showed us cool splashing techniques with the paddle, played with us with water balls, and taught us proper rowing techniques along the way. The excursion was very successful, and we had a great time. Thanks.

Dreamy kayak experience on Lake Brienz
Beautiful, relaxed, and professionally guided – an all-around successful excursion! Only the meeting point could be described more clearly; a photo of the shop would be helpful, as we initially waited by the kayaks around the corner.

Fab 1.5 hour kayak experience on Lake Brienz
We booked the 1.5 hour experience. We are a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 tweenagers). Everything was straightforward when we arrived - good changing rooms and lockers. Our guide/instructor was Ben. He was fab: safety conscious but great fun. He worked around what we wanted to do and worked some games and travelling into the session. He was full of lots of info and also understanding of the different needs in the group. He took some lovely photos and sent them to us immediately afterwards. Thank you Hightide and Ben!

Lots of fun
A great activity for four friends and family to enjoy. All had previous experience of kayaking and after brief training we all explored the area and played a few daft water games in the sunshine. Big smiles on all the teens faces (and the older one too!).

Awesome kayaks tour on Lake Brienz.
We had a wonderful experience with our tour guide Ben - it was a private tour (we got lucky since we booked through Get Your Guide as a “small group tour”) and Ben followed our lead in terms of how much kayaking we did vs just sitting on the lake in our Kayaks enjoying the peace, scenery and experience. He even brought tea and biscuits for the trip for the guests which was a nice touch. He took photos and videos of us the entire time so we didn’t have to worry about taking out our phones or anything. I would HIGHLY recommend this experience.
