Between October 1968 and May 1969, the Schilthorn was the main location for the filming of the film "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". The revolving restaurant served as a hideout for the evil Blofeld and was given the name 'Piz Gloria' in the film which has stuck with it to this day. In Bond World, the interactive exhibition dedicated to the film, visitors are immersed in seven key scenes in the filming and the anecdotes relating to it. They learn details about the filming, can admire the original script and try out various feats à la 007. A descent in a bobsleigh at dizzying speed and a flight in a helicopter simulator in the original cabin of an Air Glaciers Alouette III guarantee thrilling minutes. Exciting anecdotes about the shooting, told by participants and natives, as well as articles from the media of the time are also not lacking.

Not for the Faint of Heart - But Beautiful
We enjoyed the trip to Schilthorn, Piz Gloria/007 World, and Lauterbrunnen immensely. It was a beautiful, bright, slightly warm (for mid-September) sunny day and, from the top of the mountain, we were able to see for miles in all directions. It was a stunningly beautiful view and a once-in-a-lifetime trip! We were a group of six family members. Four of us booked this tour to pay tribute to our late father/father-in-law...a die-hard James Bond fan whose ancestors emigrated to the US from Switzerland in the late 1800's. The remaining two came along to enjoy the scenery, keep us company, and experience the Swiss Alps. This trip is NOT for the faint of heart or those who fear heights. The tram/cablecar/gondola (I've seen it referred to by each of these terms) from the base (Stechelberg) to the village of Murren is THE steepest in the world...rising 2500 ft. in under four minutes. It's a bit disconcerting to find yourself suddenly looking down at paragliders launching below you! There are two stops along the way before one reaches the summit of Schilthorn and Piz Gloria, but the ride is not quite as steep on the second and third legs. It was definitely worth the trip! Other travelers should know that this is not a "tour" of the area but more of a mode of transportation to get there. We started on a large bus with dozens of others. Then a small group of us who had booked the Lauterbrunnen & Schilthorn tour took a smaller van to that destination. Our driver was extremely pleasant and informative from there but was not what I would refer to as a "guide." Also, please read the "Know Before You Go - Inclusions and Exclusions" portion of the tour company's informational summary email. Food and drinks are not included in the price regardless of which tour option you choose. Also, the tour company does not mention that there are no toilet facilities on the bus, so you might want to keep that in mind and plan accordingly. By the time we reached the summit of Schilthorn, Piz Gloria (the 360° revolving restaurant portrayed as an "allergy clinic" in the James Bond movie "On Her Majesty's Secret Service") was packed and the queue was at least 50 people long. We were very disappointed that we were not able to get a table and had to rely on "grab and go" food from the snack bar. I highly recommend taking this trip if you're a thrill seeker, a fan of James Bond 007 movies, and/or just looking for an amazing view of the Alps (Swiss, French, and Italian...all at once). I do not recommend this trip if you do not fall into one of the categories above.

An overall pleasant experience
The experience was good. The drive to and from Schiltorn was scenic and peaceful. I appreciated the complimentary, refrigerated bottled water and fresh sweets offered by the tour driver. The tour is self-directed and the driver stays behind, though.

unprofessional
schiltorn was cancelled due to the cable car not functioning. the tour operators did not notify me. it was only by chance when I enquired where i was to redeem my ticket then only they told me it was cancelled. I was given options for another tour or a refund. I chose another tour which was 30 francs more. I was told I could have used my credit card,but when I had to pay they said cash only. so I used up all my remaining francs. I was very disappointed in that. the tour itself was enjoyable.

No Go until construction is done
Let me start by saying our driver/guide was excellent. The difficulties we experienced were weather and construction related. Upon our arrival we came upon a muddy lot full of construction materials and equipment. The lower gondola station is under major reconstruction. As is ALL of the gondola facilities and way stations. There was now where to sit, no refreshments availible, just mud, dirt and debris everywhere. As we traversed our way up the mountain we found similar conditions at each stop. Most cars were shared with workers moving equipment. When we finally arrived at the top at the Schiltorn Station, more, heavier construction. Much of the view from the revolving restaurant was of workers on the other side of the glass looking back you. Many of the features of the 007 Experience were out of order. It seemed as if they were just letting things go until construction was over. It will be an amazing place to visit and experience AFTER CONSTRUCTION IS COMPLETED. Not sure when that will be since all signs referenced a completion date of 20XX. They don't even know. I would not recommend this tour until after construction is done. We are very disappointed to have paid nearly $500 for half of an experience and no one from the travel company said a word about what we would encounter.
